‘Jallikattu’ will be the official entry to the Oscar of India | Malayalam Movie News

KOCHI / KOLKATA: The Malayalam film “Jallikattu”, based on the short story by celebrated writer S Hareesh, Maoist, has been selected as India’s official entry for the 2021 Oscars. The announcement was made by Jury Chairman Rahul Rawail at Kolkata on Wednesday. The film will compete in the category of best international feature film.

In all, 27 films were in dispute. Among the losers were Chaitanya Tamhane’s highly celebrated Marathi film “The Disciple”, “Bittersweet” (Marathi), “Chhalaang” (Hindi) and “Gulabo Sitabo” (Hindi). “I want to thank everyone who worked for the film,” said film director Lijo Jose Pellissery, 42, winner of the best director award at the India International Film Festival last year. The plot of the film revolves around a buffalo that escapes from a slaughterhouse in a remote hill town where men gather to hunt the animal. The film satirizes the chaos and the persecution becomes a metaphor for human aggression.
