Foreign Minister S Jaishankar stressed the importance of China adhering to the agreements reached over the years with India on how the two countries will address border problems, saying there will be problems if “peace and quiet they put themselves under pressure. ” His comments are significant, as they come amid differences over the process of withdrawal and de-escalation on the Royal Line of Control between the two nations.
Jaishankar said that the relationship between the two countries advanced in several other dimensions, including economic, due to these agreements and the fact that both countries followed them. “Clearly, if we want peace and quiet on the border, we must adhere to those (previous) agreements … Naturally, there will be problems if peace and quiet is put under pressure,” Jaishankar told the Hindustan Times in an interview.

India has stressed the need to quickly resolve the “unfinished business” related to the border confrontation throughout LAC amid disputes despite several rounds of diplomatic and military talks.
Military dialogue between the top commanders of the two sides has been stymied by China’s reluctance to restore the status quo ante in some key areas.

Speaking about which American president will be better from India’s perspective, the minister said: “If you look at the last four American presidents, two Republicans and two Democrats, each one very different from the other. However, each one further raised the level of relationship with India … Different groups of politicians who disagree on many things coincide in India. And I think it’s a very good place to be. “
