VIJAYAWADA: The ruling YSR Congress has finalized Physical Therapist Dr. Gurumurthy as its candidate for Tirupati Lok Sagha by election. Balli Kalyan Chakarvarthy, son of the late MP Durga Prasad Rao, has been promised a seat in the MLC for handing over Tirupati’s seat in his father’s MP to another party candidate.
Durga Prasad, acting deputy of YSRC, died due to Covid-19. Party leaders and politicians hoped that their son would be assigned the additional ticket in keeping with tradition. But Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy surprisingly selected Dr. Gurumurthy, who was his personal physical therapist during the padayatra. Dr. Gurumurthy accompanied Reddy from November 2017 to January 2019.
According to sources, Jagan had promised Dr. Gurumurthy a good position. The CM then held a meeting with the relatives of the late deputy at the CM camp office in Tadepalli to request their cooperation. Relatives of the late deputy accepted Jagan’s proposal.
Municipal Administration Minister Botsa Satyanarayana, who accompanied the relatives of the deceased deputy, told the media that the wife and son of the late Durga Prasad met with the Chief Minister, who extended his support to Durga Prasad Rao’s family. . The CM promised a seat in the MLC to the son of the late deputy each time the first seat on the legislative council becomes vacant.
Speaking on the occasion, Balli Kalyan Chakravarthy said that Jagan Mohan Reddy has supported his family since his father died due to Covid-19. He said the Chief Minister has promised a position at the MLC whenever one becomes vacant. His family would be forever grateful to the CM, he said. He said that he would work hard for the victory of the YSRC party in the upcoming by-elections.
The main opposition, Telugu Desam, has already announced former trade union minister Panabaka Lakshmi as its candidate for the Tirupati by-term elections. Meanwhile, the Congress party will hold a preparatory meeting led by APCC President Dr. Sake Sailajanath in Tirupati on Saturday to finalize the party’s candidate for Tirupati’s parliamentary by-election.
According to party sources, Congress will select six-time MP Dr. Chinta Mohan as the party’s candidate and will officially give her name after the meeting.
