Amaravati:
The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) won a landslide victory in the urban body elections in Andhra Pradesh today, winning 74 out of 75 municipalities and trends suggest that it may win in all 12 corporations. His candidates have won in the Anantapur, Kadapa, Kurnool, Chittoor, Tirupati, Ongole and Guntur corporations. The count continues at Vijayawada and Vishakapatnam Corporation, where the YSRCP has a good lead.
Elections were held for 12 corporations and the count is pending at the Eluru corporation due to High Court orders. Although the TDP has won 12 districts and the YSRCP 11 in the municipality of Mydukur, the latter’s candidate will become president with ex officio votes.
The elections were held after two years of YSRCP rule and the ruling party claims full credit to Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s welfare plans despite the crown pandemic. The ruling party believes that the urban community has also supported its policies.
In all, 12 corporations and 75 municipalities and nagar panchayats had gone to the polls on March 10. In 90 of the 671 divisions of the 12 corporations, the candidates had won without a contest. In nagar municipalities and panchayats, up to 490 districts had elected members unanimously.
More than 65 percent of the polls were reported in Wednesday’s election, according to a PTI report based on poll panel sources. The YSR Congress had already pocketed the municipalities of Pulivendula (the local district of the Chief Minister), Punganuru, Piduguralla and Macherla “unopposed”.
