Jagan announces ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakhs to relatives of 8 people who succumbed to the cyclone


Nellore: Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has announced an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the relatives of eight people (six in Chittoor and two in Kadapa districts) who died in the heavy rains caused by Cyclone Nivar.

The Chief Minister made this announcement while addressing collectors from the Nellore, Kadapa and Chittoor districts at Tirupati International Airport after an aerial survey of the Nivar-affected areas in the three districts on Saturday.

He ordered officials to ensure power is restored as soon as possible. He said the enumeration of crop losses should be taken on a war footing and reports should be submitted by December 15 to offer compensation by the end of December.

The Chief Minister said that people in aid camps should receive 500 rupees each as they return home. Volunteer services should be used to deliver the amount if they have already left the relief camps.

The Chief Minister ordered officials to provide seeds with an 80 percent subsidy to farmers in the affected areas. A decision to that effect was made at Friday’s cabinet meeting.

The Chief Minister ordered officials to act on humanitarian grounds when dealing with people in affected areas and to compensate for other damages, such as houses and livestock, according to SDRF regulations.

Deputy Chief Ministers K. Narayana Swami, Amjad Basha, Minister of the Interior M. Sucharita, Minister of Panchayat Raj Peddireddy Ramacandra Reddy, Minister of Irrigation Anil Kumar Yadav, Chairman of APIIC RK Roja, Kadapa and Nellore district collectors, officials from agriculture, horticulture, irrigation, panchayati Raj and R&B departments were among those who attended the review meeting.
