‘I’ve never seen a tour like this, the people of Bengal want a change’: Amit Shah

Union Interior Minister Amit Shah said on Sunday that the people of West Bengal are angry with Mamata Banerjee and want change. Shah made the remarks during a tour in the Bolpur area of the Birbhum district.

“I have not seen a tour like this in my life. This roadshow shows the love and trust of the people of Bengal towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The people of Bengal want a change, ”Shah said.

“This roadshow shows the anger of the Bengal public towards Mamata Didi,” he added.

The tour, which Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders called a show of power ahead of the 2021 assembly elections, began around 3.10pm from the Dakbunglow grounds and culminated in Bolpur Chowrasta More.

“People want change in Bengal to end political violence, extortion and infiltration in Bangladesh,” the interior minister said.

Shah, standing on top of an ornate truck along with BJP State President Dilip Ghosh, was seen waving to the crowd, as saffron party supporters raised the slogans ‘Jai Shri Ram’, ‘Narendra Modi Zindabad’ and ‘Amit Shah Zindabad’.

Hundreds of people, standing on both sides of the road, cheered for the interior minister as he made his way through the crowd.

Shah is on a two-day visit to the state. Earlier on Sunday, he visited the residence of a ‘Baul’ (Bengal folk music) singer for lunch.

The Minister of the Interior listened with great attention as Basudeb Das Baul and his family sang a popular folk song ‘Tomay Hrid Majhare Rakhbo’ (will keep you in the bottom of our hearts) with ‘ektara’ (single stringed musical instrument). He also offered puja at Shiva’s family temple.

On Saturday, the BJP leader had lunch at a farmer’s home in the Paschim Medinipur district as part of his exercise to strengthen relations with ordinary people ahead of the state assembly elections, to be held in April- May next year.
