Many fans and critics believed that Mahendra Singh Dhoni was playing his final season in the Indian Premier League. He had already announced his retirement from international cricket in August after being out of competitive action for more than a year. And everyone believed we would see the last of Dhoni on a cricket ground in 2020. But Dhoni squashed all those rumors by saying that he will ‘definitely not’ retire in 2020.
However, Chennai Super Kings were not at their best at IPL 2020, as they finished the season without qualifying for the playoffs for the first time in their history. They languished at the bottom of the table for most of the season before three victories in the last took them to seventh place.

The BCCI is likely to hold a mega auction next year and CSK would like to revitalize its aging squad. They have also announced that Dhoni is more likely to lead the team in 2021. But former India hitter Aakash Chopra believes CSK should not retain MS Dhoni if there is indeed a mega auction ahead of next year’s IPL. .
Chopra has given the reason that if CSK retains Dhoni, the team will lose INR 15 crore. The former Indian batsman has suggested that CSK should send Dhoni back to the group, and then the team can buy Dhoni through the right-to-match card.
By doing this, the CSK can save some money and the team can make a good team from scratch.
“I think CSK should pitch MS Dhoni in the mega auction, if there is a mega auction then you will be with that player for three years. But will Dhoni stay with you for three years? I am not saying that he will not stay with Dhoni, he will play the next IPL, but if he keeps him as a retained player, he will have to pay 15 million rupees, “said Chopra in a video posted on his Facebook account.
“If Dhoni doesn’t stay with you for three years and only plays the 2021 season, you will get the 15 million rupees back for the 2022 edition, but how are you going to find a player worth those 15 million rupees? That’s the advantage of a mega auction, you can build a great team if you have the money. If you free Dhoni for the mega auction, you can choose him with the card of the right to match and you can choose the right players if you have the desired money in your kitty. You can choose Dhoni at auction, from CSK’s point of view, if they release Dhoni and then pick him up at auction, it would be beneficial for them, “he added.
Chopra also said that of the eight franchises currently on the IPL, CSK is the one that needs a mega auction before next year’s IPL. Currently, it is not known if CSK will keep the players who played this year.

Shane Watson has already announced his retirement from all forms of cricket and, as a result, he will not be seen in action for next year’s tournament.
“CSK needs a mega auction, the full-back doesn’t have many players they can retain. If you want to build a team from scratch, are you willing to spend a lot of money on players like Faf du Plessis and Ambati Rayudu? I don’t think CSK will look at players like Raina and Harbhajan if they are building a team from scratch, “said Chopra.
CSK had finished in seventh place in this year’s IPL standings with 12 points from 14 games. This was the first time that the team led by Dhoni failed to qualify for the playoffs.
The team led by Dhoni did not have the services of Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh this season, as both chose to withdraw from the tournament. CSK has won the IPL three times (2010, 2011 and 2018).
