Shane Warne has come up with a suggestion that he believes will bridge the gap between bat and ball in T20 cricket. Given that the format is considered highly pro-hitters, the ex-leg player idea is a fresh take that promises to improve bat-ball competition.
“How about four bowlers and five overs? I think it will be a better competition between bat and ball. You want your best bowlers to bowl as much as you can as the T20 is in favor of the batsmen, ”Warne told Sky Sports Cricket while commenting during the second T20I between England and Australia.
“When you have a couple bowlers like this [Archer and Wood] you want to give them another one in advance. “
Under current rules, in a T20 match, a bowler may throw a maximum of four overs, although there are no restrictions on the number of bowlers used during an inning. Warne suggests an extra trade for each pitcher that promises to equalize the competition between bat and ball.
“Wouldn’t it be nice to give them five? Obviously, you can have eight bowlers in the bowl of whatever, but I wish bowlers could play five. [Adil] Rashid could throw five overs in the middle, which would be a good battle for hitters against spin, while you can throw your rapids early and late, “Warne said.
“I think it gets rid of the bits and pieces and you get to choose your best hitters and best bowlers when selecting your team.”
