BJP National Secretary General Tarun Chugh on Monday condemned the burning of the effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of Dussehra in Punjab.
Chugh described it as “unfortunate” and said such incidents have hurt the feelings of millions of people in the country.
He alleged that the prime minister’s effigies were burned at the behest of the congressional-led government in the state and said it showed how the ruling party could “lower itself to such a level” only for the sake of “petty politics.”
“It cannot be tolerated,” he said.
Chugh claimed that the Amarinder Singh-led administration in the state was trying to create tension through such acts to “please” congressional president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
Meanwhile, in a letter to the vice president of Punjab Governor Singh Badnore, Chugh sought action against those responsible for the burning of effigies. Punjab farmers burned effigies of the Union government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in various places on Sunday in protest against agricultural laws.
