Ishaan Khatter on polarized response to a proper guy starring him alongside Tabu: ‘you learn from it and you move on’ – bollywood

Ishaan Khatter is grateful for all the good reviews he has received for his performance in Mira Nair’s A Right Boy. He is also aware that the reception of the program has not been so overwhelmingly positive. However, he maintains a healthy attitude about it and wants to learn to adapt to the ‘ups and downs’.

Speaking to the Hindustan Times, Ishaan said that he cannot criticize the audience if they did not like his show. “First of all, one should always feel grateful for being appreciated and encouraged. It’s not like I’m going to blame anyone for having an opinion against the show. Just like I wouldn’t blame anyone for possibly not liking my work on something. You learn from it and move on. I think people have become very polarized about the show. A lot of people liked it too, and others didn’t think much of the show. I am very grateful and really honored that you have been quite unanimous about my performance and it just reinforces my feelings about my work and I feel more encouraged and charged to put myself on my next job installments, “he said.

Ishaan played Maan in the BBC series: The Son of a Politician, who is attracted to the courtesan Saeeda Bai (played by Tabu). He says that there are many things that can work for or against a program. “I mean that’s how it is. Sometimes things fit the audience and sometimes they don’t. There are variables. Sometimes, because of the way a movie comes out, you don’t get that kind of presentation and it doesn’t reach that many people. There will be ups and downs and one has to learn to adapt to them, understand them and keep growing, despite all of that because one is in it for a longer journey of growth. I’m just grateful and happy that people liked my work on it. There have also been a lot of people who have enjoyed the show, so I’d like to see the bright side. Art is subjective, it’s okay, ”he said.

“But I’m glad that I like my work. This is the first time I have done something on an international platform, something produced by the BBC. It is the first time I have made a film or a long-format series. It had definitely been a learning experience and a step forward. Working with the people I worked with was an experience that I will appreciate, including Tabu, Mira Nair, all the actors, the technicians. So I only have good things to recover, “he added.

Ishaan’s last film premiere was Khaali Peeli with Ananya Panday. The film was released on pay-per-view in October and has now reached Zee5. It’s Ishaan’s third film after Dhadak and Beyond The Clouds and his first typical Bollywood artist with a dash of romance, a heavy dose of acting, and a dash of humor. However, Ishaan said that being part of a ‘masala movie’ was not on his priority list. “I did not set it as a priority. It wasn’t like it was a calculated decision. It definitely thrilled me as it was a space that I hadn’t explored before. It just so happened that a suitable movie came out that moved me. It got my juices flowing and I felt like it would be nice to play a role like this, ”he said.

Khaali Peeli introduces Ishaan as a street taxi driver who meets his childhood sweetheart (played by Ananya) in a truly peculiar situation. Ananya plays a young woman who is forced to marry a slimy businessman who had his eyes on her when she was no more than 10 years old. great potential to be abused in less sensitive hands. However, Ishaan had full confidence in his director, Maqbool Khan.

“The first time they made me listen to the script, he (Maqbool) was very clear from the beginning that it is an entertaining film and that he does not want to examine or delve too deeply into this subject. You don’t want to change the tone of the movie. But at the same time it was important that he handle it with sensitivity and he also gives it that importance. I wanted to have the right balance. Maqbool Bhai is someone who has lived in Bombay for 19-20 years, he has worked a lot in television, from what he understands Bombay and that most vulnerable part of the city. So he was able to portray it in a way that fit with a commercial Hindi movie and also in a way that feels real. We always knew that he would do him justice because he understands it. “
