A spokesman for the Ministry of Railways has said that more special rail services are being planned for passenger transport, and state governments are also being consulted for this. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Piyush Goyal, who chaired the Ministry of Railways, had previously introduced several Shramik Special train services, as well as IRTCT special train services. As all passenger train services are still suspended due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the 230 selected special trains are still operated on the Indian railway network.

For those traveling during the times of the current pandemic, the national carrier has made the use of masks mandatory in the station facilities and also during the trip. To undergo a thermal test at stations, all travelers or train users must arrive at the station at least 90 minutes in advance. The railway authorities only allow those who are asymptomatic to board the special train.
