The Mumbai Indians have signed on Parthiv Patel to join their strong network of scouts, just a day after the former Indian goalkeeper announced his retirement from the sport. Previously, Patel was part of the IPL-winning Mumbai Indians team and will now join the network of support staff.
Parthiv Patel was part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore setup at the 2020 IPL but didn’t get a chance with the side opening with Devdutt Padikkal and Aaron Finch. That could have played a role when Patel announced his retirement from the sport with SportsCafe upon learning that the goalkeeper joined an online platform as a cricket expert for the upcoming India-Australia test series. Meanwhile, the Mumbai Indians announced that Patel has joined the defending champions of the Mumbai Indians as a Talent Scout.
“Parthiv brings a vast national and international cricket experience spanning over two decades, along with an understanding of fast-paced IPL competition. Parthiv, the former player for the Mumbai Indians, was part of the teams that won the IPL championship in 2015 and 2017. The 35-year-old will work closely with the Mumbai Indians coaching staff and the scouting group, ”reads a statement from the franchise.
“I am delighted that Parthiv is joining us. We had the opportunity to choose his cricket brain during his playing days at Mumbai Indians. I am very confident of his contribution to further enhance our scouting system with the depth of cricket knowledge he possesses. We welcome Parthiv to our One Family ”, welcoming Parthiv to the Indian setting of Mumbai, said owner Akash Ambani.
Parthiv also seemed ecstatic to join the four-time champions and stated that he is excited about the new opportunity.
“I had enjoyed my game of cricket for the Mumbai Indians, those three momentous years with the champion teams remain etched in my memory. Now is the time to take a new step in my life. I am excited, confident and grateful to the Mumbai Indians management for the opportunity presented to me. “
