England’s all-rounder Moeen Ali has petitioned the Chennai Super Kings management to remove a certain sponsor logo from his jersey due to the ban on alcohol because of his faith.
Moeen Ali is a practicing Muslim and his faith prohibits him from consuming alcohol. He does not admit alcohol brand logos on any of his jerseys, be it from England or any other national team he plays for around the world.
The Chennai Super Kings T-shirt has the SNJ 10000 logo, which is a surrogate product brand for Chennai-based SNJ Distilleries. CSK management agreed to Moeen’s request and removed the logo from his match jersey.
CSK bought the 33-year-old for a whopping 7 million rupees at the IPL 2021 auction in February. This is Moeen’s second IPL franchise after Royal Challengers Bangalore, with whom he played for 3 seasons since 2018.
Moeen has played 19 IPL games so far, scoring 309 runs and choosing 10 wickets. Last month, Moeen expressed his excitement about playing with former India captain MS Dhoni at CSK this season.
“I’ve talked to players who have played with MS and they tell me how he improves his game. I think a great captain does that,” Moeen said on the CSK website.
“I think it’s something on every player’s wish list to play under MS. I think it’s the confidence and clarity that it brings to people. It’s exciting.”
The three-time champion Chennai Super Kings will open their 2021 IPL campaign against Rishabh Pant’s Delhi Capitals on April 10 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
