IPL 2020 – ‘This was a surprise’: KKR on Narine action reported – cricket

Kolkata Knight Riders issued an official statement on Monday regarding spinner Sunil Narine’s action during the team’s last outing in the IPL against Kings XI Punjab. KKR, who will face RCB in a crucial match on Monday, said the development came as a surprise to the franchise.

“Mr. Sunil Narine was reported for suspicious action by the referees after KKR’s match against KXIP held on October 10, 2020 in Abu Dhabi.

“This was a surprise to the franchise and to Mr. Narine, considering that he has played over 115 games in the IPL since 2012 and up to 68 games since 2015, when he was last reported during the IPL season for an action suspicious before being subsequently fully cleared by SRASSC, an ICC accredited facility.

“Also, he was playing his sixth game this season, with no concerns expressed formally or informally by the referees until now.

“With that being said, we respect the process that the IPL has put in place for their action to be reviewed, and we are working closely with the IPL on this matter. We are hopeful that there will be a suitable resolution quickly. We appreciate the cooperation that IPL is providing to expedite this matter, ”KKR said in its statement.

The report was made by the umpires on the field in accordance with the IPL Suspect Illegal Bowling Action Policy, according to the press release. Narine, as per the rules, will now be included in the Warning List and allowed to continue bowling in the tournament.

However, if there is another report against Narine’s action, then the bowler will be suspended from bowling at IPL 2020 until further clearance is received. “Another report will result in Mr. Narine being suspended from bowling at Dream11 IPL 2020 until approved by BCCI’s Bowling Suspects Action Committee,” the IPL press release read.

Narine has so far picked up just 5 wickets in 6 matches, but he has thrown some crucial trades in the death of KKR and his presence is of the utmost importance to the franchise. Therefore, the team would hope that he will not be recalled for an illegal action.
