Kolkata Knight Riders came close to scoring another record-breaking chase in the current Indian Premier League season against Delhi Capitals on Saturday in Sharjah. The key word, however, is “almost”. At one point, KKR appeared to be out of the competition, after dropping six wickets and needing more than 60 to win in 4 overs. But a belated show from Eoin Morgan and Rahul Tripathi brought hope back to the KKR camp, and it looked like the franchise could chase 229 to create an IPL record.
But it didn’t happen. An impressive penultimate over from Anrich Nortje followed by a cracker from a final over from Marcus Stoinis turned things around, and KKR lost the match by 18 runs.

After the match, Kerala closer S Sreesanth said Eoin Morgan should lead Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL, instead of Dinesh Karthik. Sreesanth explained that having a World Cup winning captain as the team leader will certainly help the franchise.
“I genuinely feel that @ Eoin16 should lead the team, (surly no * dk kolaimandaaaiiiOctopus) The World Cup winning captain should surly lead the ipl side. Hope #kkr looks into this topic. And win, they need a leader who leads from the front like Rohit, Dhoni or Virat … what a player, ”Sreesanth wrote on Twitter.
Morgan led England to the first victory at the ODI World Cup last year.
Meanwhile, after losing the match, KKR captain Dinesh Karthik was asked about his decision to send Sunil Narine to the top instead of Tripathi. “I haven’t thought about it (making the change at the top) but maybe after this game I’ll sit down with the coaching staff. We still believe in Narine and whenever it gets going it helps us get off to a great start, ”Karthik said.
KKR will face Chennai Super Kings in their next game on Wednesday.
