The four-time champion IM may start out as one of the strongest or favorite teams to win the 2020 IPL, but according to Gavaskar, the team is grappling with a couple of concerns before defending its title. Gavaskar believes MI may have problems in two departments, one of which is a lack of experienced spinners.

That’s right. MI has Chahar as the only specialized spinner, while the Pandya and Anukul Roy SUVs are more than capable of picking up windows. But on the surfaces of Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah, which have traditionally attended spins, it will be interesting to see how well MI handles its spinners.

“Yes, you can say that because they don’t have the experienced spinners that other teams have,” Sunil Gavaskar told Sports Tak.
In addition to the lack of depth in his effects department, Gavaskar has expressed concern about his medium order. MI has a strong middle order with the likes of Pollard, Yadav, the Pandya brothers and Ishan Kishan in its ranks, but what Gavaskar feels could cause a bit of a dilemma is deciding where to hit.
“The other thing that can be a weakness is the order in between. They will have to think about who will hit the 4 and 5 position. If he plays Quinton de Kock, he will start with Rohit Sharma or Suryakumar Yadav, “added Gavaskar.
“Ishan Kishan could enter No. 4, he can also open the entrances. Kieron Pollard can come in at number 5. Maybe Hardik Pandya can rise to number 4. But if that doesn’t happen, who will play at number 4? “
