Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) began their 2020 IPL campaign with a 10-run win over SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Dubai on Monday. RCB captain Virat Kohli was visibly delighted with the way his teammates performed under pressure to start the tournament on top, something they were unable to do in the past. Defending totals has never been RCB’s strong suit over the years and Kohli praised his players who threw brilliantly to defend the total in difficult conditions.
He commended the bowlers for “showing a lot of character” and sticking to their game plan despite bowling with a wet ball, which is difficult to catch.
“The fact that we won defending a total, which was not even 170, is not something we have done in the past. On a field that was difficult for pitchers in the second half because of the spray. We saw it in the game between Reyes XI vs Delhi it was difficult for the bowlers to control the ball at the end. So the guys showed a lot of character, “Kohli said in the video.
Aside from the bowlers, Kohli also praised Aaron Finch and young Devdutt Padikkal for giving them a brilliant start. Padikkal was impressive in his IPL debut and broke a fluid half century.

It was AB de Villiers’ powerful punch that helped RCB reach a competitive total. Explaining his game plan after the game, he said: “My goal was to hit 160 when I was hitting. I was sure I was on the right track. I was very happy that I could get to 160. I think anything but put under a lot of pressure. Yuzi shot exceptionally well, Shivam did very well and overall a very good performance on the field. “
RCB will face Kings XI Punjab at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on September 24.
