IPL 2020: Six galore! 153 maximums already in just 10 games so far | Cricket news

NEW DELHI: That’s gigantic. The ball leaves the park. It is gigantic. The ball lands on the ceiling. It’s huge. Here it is raining six. Ah! that’s monstrous – commentators are running out of words, with the count of six rising super fast in IPL 2020 in the United Arab Emirates.
Since only three stadiums host the games, the teams already have a good idea about the nature of the tracks. That knowledge will only grow in future games, which could mean more sixes are hit.
However, the number of six hitting the ground is also directly proportional, of course, to the size of the ground.
Sharjah’s stadium, for example, has a smaller playing area and a flatter field. It was listed as the friendliest hitting spot before the IPL and in just two games played on this field so far, there have been 62 sixes that have been hit here.
SIX HITS SO FAR:
So far only 10 IPL matches have been played and the brilliant tournament has already seen 153 sixes (up to the RCB vs MI match on Monday).
The league started with an appetizing clash between the Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians and nine sixes were beaten in the opener of the 2020 IPL.
STATISTICS – 10 games and 153 sixes:

THE BASICS:
Due to the rapidly spreading COVID-19 pandemic, IPL 2020 moved to the United Arab Emirates. Sheikh Zayed Stadium (Abu Dhabi), Dubai International Cricket Stadium (Dubai) and the Sharjah Cricket Stadium (Sharjah) were selected to host the 60 IPL 2020 matches.
Sharjah Cricket Stadium (Sharjah): The iconic cricket ground has seen a large number of sixes in the tournament so far, thanks in large part to its small playing area and flat field. The venue, with a capacity of 17,000, has hosted just two league games so far and seen 62 sixes. That’s the highest tally of six among the three venues hosting the games this time around. The first match here was played between RR and CSK and the teams reached 33 maximums in total. The second game was played between RR and KXIP and the hitters broke 29 huge game highs. Both games were won by RR. That’s an average of 31 sixes per game in this field so far.
Dubai International Cricket Stadium (Dubai): With a capacity of more than 25,000, which of course is not being used in these Covid times, the Dubai International Cricket Stadium has hosted the most games so far, five. This is the largest cricket stadium in the UAE, so cleaning the ropes regularly here is difficult too. Hitters have hit 58 sixes on this field so far. That’s an average of 11.6 sixes per game in this field so far.
Sheikh Zayed Stadium (Abu Dhabi): This is a big piece of land and clearing the boundary is the hardest thing here. It is one of the largest stadiums in the world. Since 2010, 93 T20 matches have been played here and the overall run rate is just 7.03 runs over, the lowest among the three venues. The Abu Dhabi field was expected to be the lowest hitting friendly venue before the tournament. In the three games the venue has hosted so far this league, batters have sent the ball out of the park 33 times. That’s an average of 11 sixes per game in this field so far at IPL 2020.
SIX HIT PER GROUND SO FAR IN IPL 2020:
Sharjah Cricket Stadium (Sharjah): 2 matches, 62 sixes, average: 31 sixes per match so far
Sheikh Zayed Stadium (Abu Dhabi) – 3 games, 33 sixes, average – 11 sixes per game so far
Dubai International Cricket Stadium (Dubai): 5 games, 58 sixes, average: 11.6 sixes per game so far.
