IPL 2020: Shane Warne, Kumar Sangakkara want new ‘referee’s call’ rule overhaul after Kieron Pollard survives using DRS – cricket

Mumbai Indians all-rounder Kieron Pollard survived an LBW appeal in front of bowling from Sunrisers Hyderabad leg spinner Rashid Khan, thanks to the referee’s call on the field, once again put the rule of DRS under scan, so much so that legendary cricketers Shane Warne and Kumar Sangakkara asked for a review to give importance to the decision of the field referee in closed shouts.

Former Australian cricketer Shane Warne stressed Tuesday that the referee’s on-field decision should be overruled after a captain reviews.

“I will continue to insist on this. If a captain reviews a decision, then the decision of the court officials must be removed, as he cannot have the same ball out or not out! Once this happens it’s simple and clear, it should be out or not! @BCCI @ICC @HomeOfCricket, ”Warne tweeted.

“This will also allow a more accurate picture of whether the referees are making the right decisions or not. Get the referees to call the referees performance summary help! Eliminate the original decision on the field, which does not lead to the umpires calling! Warne added.

The incident took place on the 15th of MI’s innings during SRH’s must-play game in Sharjah on Tuesday. Pollard was declared a no-out based on the referee’s decision after Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) conducted a review. Rashid Khan made a big appeal from LBW, but the outfield referee stated that it was not ruled out, after which SRH did a review. Replays showed that the impact of the ball was fifty percent and it should remain with the court umpire even though the ball is thrown in line and hits the stumps.

Warne wasn’t the only one to criticize the rule. Former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara, who was in the comment box at the time, also called the “referee’s decision” rule a “contentious” rule.

Pollard, in the end, broke 41 of 25 balls and helped the Mumbai Indians to a respectable score of 149, hitting first. In response, Wriddhiman Saha and David Warner hit the MI attack without Bumrah and Boult to all parts of the ground and hit the target in 17.1 overs with all 10 wickets in hand.

Saha was unbeaten at 58 on 45 balls, while Captain Warner hit an unbeaten 85 on just 58 balls as SRH qualified for the play-offs by eliminating KKR from the competition, whose only hope was an MI win.

The result did not affect MI at all as they finished at the top of the table and will face Delhi Capitals in qualifying on Thursday.
