Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma revealed on Monday (September 28) that he decided not to send Ishan Kishan to bat in the Super Over in his match against Royal Challengers Bangalore because the latter was physically tired.
“He (Kishan) was exhausted and not comfortable. We thought we could ship him, but he didn’t feel fresh,” said Rohit Sharma.
Ishan played his first 2020 Indian Premier League game on Monday and went on to score 99 of 58 balls to help Mumbai tie the game while chasing a rigid 2020 racing goal at the Dubai Cricket Stadium.
“Ishan there and then Pollard was brilliant as always for us. It’s just that we couldn’t get off to a good start, I thought we could chase 200 with the hitting power we have,” added the Mumbai Indians captain.
Mumbai scored just seven runs since the Super Over and Virat Kohli’s RCB won the match comfortably. “Seven runs, you have to get lucky on your side and get a wicket on the first two balls. And that unfortunate lead on the thin leg made it two by two,” Rohit said.
The Mumbai Indians failed to score freely while chasing until Kishan and Kieron Pollard added 119 51-ball runs for the fifth wicket.
“We weren’t in the game when we started with the bat. Big innings from Ishan to recover. Polly was brilliant as always. We just didn’t start well, I thought we could have hit 200 with the batting. We have. With Polly there, anything can. happen, and Ishan can get it right, “Sharma said.
“We didn’t get momentum in the first 6-7 overs and we also lost three wickets. With Polly there, anything can happen, Ishan was doing well too, so we had a belief that we would get there. Nothing to take away from RCB, they kept their nerves more than us, “he added.
