The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League started with a bang on September 19 with the defending champs Mumbai Indians losing to three-time winners Chennai Super Kings in Abu Dhabi in the opening match of the 2020 edition.
The format remains the same with each of the eight teams playing each other. Two points will be awarded to the winner of each match, while one point will be awarded to any team in the event of no result. The result will be decided by a ‘Super Over’ in the event of a tie.

The top four teams in the classification will qualify for the playoffs. The top two teams will meet in Qualifier 1 and the winner will proceed directly to the Final.
The loser of Qualifier 1 awaits the result of the Eliminator, which will be played between the teams in third and fourth place, and then will play the winner of Qualifier 2 for a place in the Final.
