Faf du Plessis comes out for a first ball duck when Sandeep Sharma hits for SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the third over inning. Sam Curran rushes his way to 31 of 21, including Khaleel Ahmed’s 4, 4, 6, but Sandeep also ends Curran’s stay with a clean bowling alley. Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu beat in the middle to prepare a platform for death. Both SRH and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are in the lower half of the points table and will be looking for a turnaround when the Indian Premier League (IPL) enters its second half. CSK won the toss and chose to hit first. Piyush Chawla replaces N Jagadeesan in CSK’s lineup, while Shahbaz Nadeem replaces Abhishek Sharma with SRH. MS Dhoni had literally struggled to breathe when these two sides last met at IPL 2020 and expected a better show from himself and his teammates as CSK look for their third victory of the tournament. SRH, on the other hand, would still be reeling from the loss to the Rajasthan Royals, a match they controlled for 36 of the 40 overs. (LIVE SCORE CARD)

    SHUTTER! Rayudu c Warner b Khaleel 41 (34)

    Wicket finally for SRH!

A low, full pitch from the outside from Khaleel and Rayudu absolutely smokes it up in the middle, but fails to clear Warner on deep.

The SRH captain takes a simple catch and Rayudu has to go.

  • 20:42 (IST)

    SIX!

    Swept by six!

Rayudu takes this ball from the outside and deposits it deep in the middle of the wicket for the second six from the end.

They have disarmed Rashid on this.

    Fabulous hitting.

  • 20:41 (IST)

    SIX!

Watson is leading the attack on Rashid.

He threw again and Watson hit him squarely on the ground for six.

  • 20:35 (IST)

    FOUR!

Natarajan misses his wide yorker and throws a low full pitch outside. Rayudu was ready for that. It breaks it through the point by four.

100 is up for CSK at 14th.

  • 20:29 (IST)

    SIX!

Watson takes inspiration from Rayudu and hits Rashid with a six on the first ball of the 13th.

This one was a bit overloaded and Watson got down on one knee and swept it for six.

The CSK is looking to change gears, apparently.

  • 20:28 (IST)

    SIX!

Rayudu says enough is enough when he comes down the wicket again and hits Nadeem on the head for a six.

    That will break the shackles.

  • 20:27 (IST)

    Great effort from Manish Pandey!

Excellent effort from Manish Pandey on deep.

Watson hits this over the middle and Pandey walks in and dives forward to catch, but the ball bounces just short of reaching his hands.

    However, top marks for effort.

  • 20:25 (IST)

Rashid maintains his grip on CSK hitters

A spectacular effort by Priyam Garg at the half-gate fence crosses a certain limit.

Watson threw the ball hard and Garg ran from afar and dived to keep the ball from hitting the rope.

CSK is 74/2 after 11 overs.

  • 20:19 (IST)

Spinners keep things tight in the middle

Nadeem and Rashid maintain tight lines and pitch into their fields while Watson and Rayudu trade singles and doubles.

CSK is looking to have windows in hand to set things up for the Death Over.

  • 20:13 (IST)

    Rashid Khan on the attack!

Rashid is 5.93 runs higher on the season so far. And he keeps lines tight to give away just three runs on his first over.

  • 20:09 (IST)

    FOUR!

    What a Watson moment!

This was a bit short and Watson rocked back before shoving this through the blankets and hitting the man running from deep point.

    Beautifully played.

  • 20:06 (IST)

    SIX!

T Natarajan makes the mistake of throwing one on Watson’s pads and the batter nonchalantly tosses it over the square leg for a six.

That will break the shackles of Watson, who had so far struggled to get the big shots going.

  • 20:02 (IST)

    FOUR!

SRH introduces spin as Shahbaz Nadeem enters the bowl.

Rayudu couldn’t care less, though, as he goes down the wicket once more and hits the last ball inside out onto the decks for four more.

  • 19:59 (IST)

    FOUR!

    INTENTION!

Ambati Rayudu enters the bat and takes charge from the first moment.

He comes charging through the gate and hits the last ball of the fifth for a four over the head of the middle of the field.

  • 19:56 (IST)

    SHUTTER! Sam Curran b Sandeep 31 (21)

    He shot it down!

Sandeep bakes a cookie to get rid of Curran.

This ball was leaning around the stumps and it just drifted away a bit after being thrown.

Curran is playing the wrong line and his stumps are smashed.

A timely advance for the SSR.

  • 19:52 (IST)

    SIX!

He starts the ending with a four and ends it with a six, Curran does.

The last ball is also short in length and Curran hits it directly over the bowler’s head, like a tennis backhand, for six more.

22 runs from the fourth over, just the kind of CSK over you need in Powerplay.

  • 19:49 (IST)

    SIX!

Khaeel grows lower and lower. What is he thinking about

Curran hooks this, and this time he’s sailed over the long, wide fence for a six.

The first six of the entries.

  • 19:48 (IST)

    FOUR!

And again. A short ball, this time from Khaleel, and Curran takes it out wide, this time for another four.

    Curran seems to open up.

  • 7:47 PM (IST)

    FOUR!

    Crushed by four!

Khaleel drops one of the sides and hits it against the field. It feels great for Curran, who crushes it in half for four.

  • 19:42 (IST)

SHUTTER! Faf du Plessis c Bairstow b Sandeep 0 (1)

    Great opportunity for SRH!

Faf du Plessis is out for a first ball duck.

Sandeep runs for his second changeover and moves one towards du Plessis who holds his line after pitching. The batter hits the ball behind goalkeeper Jonny Bairstow.

  • 19:36 (IST)

    FOUR!

Khaleel Ahmed shares the new ball with Sandeep.

He offers Curran some space outside and the batter lies down on that ball. Curran smugly cuts it by four.

  • 19:33 (IST)

SRH starts well with the ball

Sandeep starts off well with the new ball. It takes him away from left-hander Curran and keeps the big hitter tied to the crease.

Only three races go into the first lap.

  • 19:30 (IST)

Surprise! Sam Curran to open batting with Faf du Plessis

CSK has opted for a change to the top of the order. Sam Curran will open with Faf du Plessis, a departure from the successful initial pairing of Shane Watson and du Plessis.

SRH will open the bowling alley with Sandeep Sharma.

  • 19:25 (IST)

    Bairstow vs. Chahar

This contest will come up later in the day. Deepak Chahar can move the new ball both ways, something Jonny Bairstow has worried about in the past.

  • 19:13 (IST)

    Head to head

This is how the two teams have fared in recent meetings.

CSK and SRH played the 2018 IPL final where Chennai emerged victorious in its first season after returning from a two-year ban.

  • 19:10 (IST)

    Playing XI

SunRisers Hyderabad: David Warner (c), Jonny Bairstow (week), Manish Pandey, Kane Williamson, Priyam Garg, Vijay Shankar, Rashid Khan, Shahbaz Nadeem, Sandeep Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed, T Natarajan

Super Kings of Chennai: Shane Watson, Faf du Plessis, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni (c & wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Sam Curran, Dwayne Bravo, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Piyush Chawla, Karn Sharma

  • 19:01 (IST)

TOSS: Chennai Super Kings win the toss and bat first

MS Dhoni says it well and CSK is hitting first.

Piyush Chawla replaces N Jagadeesan in the CSK lineup.

David Warner is not disappointed with the result of the draw.

SRH has a change: Shahbaz Nadeem comes in for Abhishek Sharma.

  • 18:38 (IST)

Rashid Khan vs MS Dhoni – heavyweight clash

Rashid Khan is the fourth largest wicket catcher in the tournament so far with 10 wickets from seven games and has a measly economy rate of 5.93 runs over.

MS Dhoni, on the other hand, has yet to find its best touch. A competition between the two weighs heavily in Rashid’s favor, but no one can really discount Dhoni at any point.

  • 18:10 (IST)

Both teams seek a change of course

Chennai Super Kings are with just two wins out of seven matches and are seventh in the table. This is where they had met midway through IPL 2010, the year they won their first title.

So there is a lot to look forward to when it comes to CSK.

SRH, on the other hand, has been very hot and cold in recent games. After a losing start to their IPL, they beat CSK comprehensively the last time these teams met, but they haven’t been in top form ever since.

As a result, with three wins and four losses, they are placed fifth.
