“The health and safety of the nation and of everyone involved in our great sport remains our top priority and as such, BCCI along with franchise owners, the broadcaster, sponsors and all stakeholders recognize that the IPL 2020 season will only begin when it is safe and appropriate to do so, “BCCI said in a statement.
BCCI further added that it will continue to monitor and review the situation regarding a possible start date in close collaboration with all its stakeholders.
The Board will also continue to receive guidance from the Government of India, state governments and other state regulatory bodies.
The 13th edition of IPL was due to start on March 29 and end on May 24, but was first postponed until April 15 after an increase in positive cases of coronavirus in the country.
The possible window remaining for the BCCI to host the league this year is from September to November. But for that to happen, India will have to skip the Asian Cup organized by the PCB in Dubai or Cricket Australia and the International Cricket Council decides to forgo the T20 World Cup to create a window.
