The Mumbai Indians suffered their second loss in the Super Over this season, losing to Kings XI Punjab on Sunday after a historic IPL match at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. While the game was full of twists and turns, Kieron Pollard, addressing the post-game presentation, also wowed fans of the Mumbai Indians. When asked about Rohit Sharma’s absence, the West Indian revealed that the patron of the Mumbai Indians “was not feeling well” and was therefore asked to speak on his behalf. “They told me that he (Rohit) is not feeling well and come and do your chores for you and have a conversation and we’ll see what happens. I’m not sure what the outcome will be,” Pollard said after the game.
As Pollard was saying this, Mark Nicholas, the commentator, joked that “we wouldn’t blame him if he just couldn’t face it after all.” To which Pollard replied, “No, it’s not about not fighting. He’s a fighter.”
Pollard, who was at his explosive best on regulation play, scoring 34 unbeaten 12-ball games, was not hit at bat in the first Super Over, with Rohit and Quinton de Kock taking precedence over the West Indies.
Chasing a modest total of just six runs, the two starters failed to hit a single limit after Mohammed Shami nailed his yorkers and took the game into another Super Over after restricting them to 5/1.
Speaking about this at the post-game press conference, the hit West Indies all-rounder said it was up to the team’s management and they are the ones who decide who’s going to hit and when.
“Obviously there are the decision makers to make the decision, you know we can look at those things and say that’s where we lost the game, but we played a really good game of cricket,” Pollard said.
When Pollard finally came out to bat in the second Super Over, he broke a four and nearly cleared the fence to give his team a more reasonable 12 runs to defend.

However, Pollard’s compatriot Chris Gayle broke six of the first ball, while Mayank Agarwal hit back-to-back limits to bring Kings XI Punjab over the line, with two balls to spare.
With this defeat, the Mumbai Indians lost the opportunity to topple the capitals of Delhi from the top of the points table. Next Friday they will face Chennai Super Kings.
