IPL 2020: ‘It never happened to me in my career history’, Glenn Maxwell opens up about his inconsistent career in the Indian Premier League – cricket

Glenn Maxwell is one of the most curious cases in cricket. He is spoken of as this player who has great talent and an intrepid attitude. Maxwell is someone who can turn the game around on his own, but he has faced a major problem in his career, which is consistency. Maxwell has not consistently delivered on cricket and it is something that often generates frustration among fans.

Even during the Indian Premier League auctions, Maxwell is one of the most sought after cricketers. He was picked up by Kings XI Punjab for a whopping 10.75 million rupees and arrived at this year’s IPL on the back of a 108-for-90 ball against England. But Maxwell hasn’t lived up to expectations after scoring just 58 runs in 7 games.

The inconsistency in his way of playing the IPL, Maxwell acknowledges, is due to the changing nature of his roles, which, when he plays for Australia, has remained constant over the years. In an interaction, Maxwell reveals why he has excelled for Australia but has not been able to replicate it with the same amount of success playing the IPL.

This is Maxwell’s fifth season with Kings XI Punjab. The swashbuckling hitter was first chosen in 2014 and took over the franchise in 2017 before being released. In 2018, he moved to the capitals of Delhi, where he scored 169 runs in 12 games. Last year, he opted out of the IPL in hopes of preparing for the World Cup before returning to KXIP again this year.

“When they are only together for two months a year with IPL, there will be changes and cuts. You are always looking for the right equipment balance. The team you choose at the beginning of the tournament may not have the balance that you think of as you go, ”said Maxwell.

“We feel like we are getting closer to that (team balance). I have had different experiences (in the IPL) in which I have not performed quite at the level that people expect, but I have not missed trying (or) putting the effort into training. ”

Maxwell’s first season with KXIP, in 2014, remains his most successful. Maxwell burned the charts scoring 552 runs as KXIP reached its only finish. But the 2017 season, in which he was team captain, remains close to Maxwell’s heart.

“Even though I did well in 2014, I actually thought my performance in 2017 was my best season. Being captain, man of the game several times and I threw much more. I thought it was my best season in the IPL. I was able to combine some game-winning shots with some mature shots, ”he said, referring to the year he scored 310 runs with a strike rate of 173 and took seven wickets at an impressive economy rate of 6.57,” he said.

“This year has been a different role (hitting five) and I’m trying to get used to it. I would like to think that I have tried to do my role the best I could. We have Nicky (Nicholas Pooran) hitting incredibly well with four. With his power hitting, my job has been to get him on strike and be there to help finish the games.

This year, even though Maxwell has failed to set the tournament on fire with his big hit, the ‘Big Show’ has managed to stay undefeated in four innings, which is even weirder. “I haven’t been out four times (three actually) in seven games, which probably never happened to me in my career history. So it’s been a strange transition for me to hit five and I feel like I’ve started to get used to it more, ”he explained.
