IPL 2020 | ‘I was scared, I hadn’t caught a bat in five months’: Virat Kohli in first net session after blocking – cricket

Virat Kohli had their first networking session in almost six months, and the Royal Challengers Bangalore were pleased with the way it went. Kohli’s RCB had their first networking session on Friday at the ICC Cricket Academy in Dubai ahead of the 2020 IPL, the skipper being one of the first cricketers to hold a full session. Despite not having caught a bat in so long due to blocking in India, Kohli did well, timing the ball so well it was as if he never stopped playing.

“[It went] much better than expected, to be honest. I was pretty scared. I hadn’t caught a bat in five months, but yeah, it turned out better than I thought, to be honest. I have trained quite a bit during the run, so I feel quite fit and that helps, ”Kohli told the franchise website.

“Because the body is light and you react better, I feel like I have more time with the ball. That is a great advantage. Otherwise it comes in heavier into the season, the body doesn’t move as much and it starts to play on the mind, but yeah, like I said, it was much better than I expected. “

Traditionally, RCB has not done well in previous editions of the IPL, its two best performances came in 2009 and 2016, when the team reached the final but finished runner-up. At the IPL 2020 auction in December last year, the team made some smart purchases, including acquiring Australian captain Aaron Finch for Rs 4.4 crore. But while Finch promises to solve some of RCB’s hitting woes, the team’s bowling on the kill has been his Achilles heel.

To help share bowling duties, especially in the spin department, in addition to Yuzvendra Chahal, RCB has the option of having players like Washington Sundar and Shahbaz Nadeem, who have played for India. And judging by the way they fared online, Kohli remained optimistic.

“The spinners looked pretty good for the first day, they threw the ball in consistent areas long enough,” Kohli said. “Shahbaz was good, Washy was very good, I also saw Chahal’s bowl well. The seamers followed his movements a bit. Overall, a decent start to our camp. “
