Kolkata Knight Riders earned a 10-run win over Chennai Super Kings in the previous game and it was starting batsman Rahul Tripathi who made the difference for the franchise in the match. Tripathi scored an 81 of 51 balls and KKR posted a total of 168 for CSK to chase after. While the bowling unit did well to keep CSK’s batting lineup of Faf du Plessis, Shane Watson, Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni in chains, there was a strategy that did not impress former Australian bowler Brett Lee.
In the match, KKR decided to drop their star pitcher Sunil Narine at the end of the attack. It was the combination of Varun Chakravarthy, Shivam Mavi, Pat Cummins and Kamlesh Nagarkoti who pitched the entire first half for KKR. (Total IPL coverage 2020)
Narine was finally carried on the attack in the 11th over, and posted 31/1 in 4 overs. Speaking after the game on Star Sports, Brett Lee said KKR got away with it, but shouldn’t persist with the strategy of keeping Narine so late in the attack.
“KKR got away with it (against CSK) and I think CSK threw it overboard. I don’t think stopping Narine is for the best. It worked against CSK, but I don’t think it’s the model (for KKR), ”said Brett Lee.

After the match, KKR captain Dinesh Karthik said that the team has to support Narine who is an important member of the KKR team. “There are some key players for each team. Narine is one for us. The least we can do is support it. 2-3 bad games, it doesn’t matter. It’s good to see Tripathi do the job at the top. The good thing about Russ is that he is very versatile. You can hit slightly up, slightly down. Our hitting is very fluid. I started at three, today I hit at seven. The way those guys hit at the beginning, they did really well. At the rear, I trust Sunil and Varun a lot, it was worth it, ”said Karthik at the post-match presentation ceremony.
KKR will face KXIP in their next game on Saturday.
