IPL 2020: ‘He may be a special player in the future’ – Yuvraj Singh on young – cricket

The Jammu and Kashmir all-rounder Abdul Samad has been one of the IPL 2020 finds. The hard-hitting right-hander, who also bowls with a handy leg twist, made his IPL debut this year for Sunrisers Hyderabad after the first few games and proved to be one of their key players in the middle order. Samad’s fluid hitting game impressed former Indian off-roaders Yuvraj Singh and Irfan Pathan, who called him a talent for the future.

Samad, the third Jammu and Kashmir player to play in the IPL, broke a brilliant 33 on 16 balls against the Delhi Capitals on Sunday.

However, the 19-year-old cricketer was unable to side with him on the line as the Delhi Capitals defended a total of 189 runs to advance to the IPL final.

“Yeah I should have won the game for @SunRisers but really proud of #abdulsamad for showing character and power play,” Irfan tweeted. It was Irfan who witnessed Samad’s talent before the auctions. The former all-rounder from India had seen the right-hander’s talent when working with J&K as a mentor in national cricket.

Yuvraj was also in awe of Samad’s hitting and said that he may be a special player in the future as he showed a lot of promise against Delhi Capitals.

“#Samad showed a lot of promise, I think he can be a special player in the future,” Yuvraj tweeted.

In an interview with the Hindustan Times, former West Indies hitter Brian had also said about his fondness for Samad. In fact, Lara named the right-hander on her list of young Indian hitters who impressed at the 2020 IPL.

In 12 games, Samad scored 11 runs this year, but what was impressive was his 170.6 hit rate.
