IPL 2020: Gautam Gambhir explains why ‘Steve Smith is the main problem with the Rajasthan Royals’ – cricket

Former Australia captain Steve Smith is considered one of the best hitters in the world in all formats, but his performance in the current 2020 Indian Premier League season has left much to be desired. Smith got off to a good start to the tournament scoring 50 in a row for the team.

But his inconsistent batting career, and RR failed to win games, has exposed flaws in Smith’s performance.

Former India hitter Gautam Gambhir believes Steve Smith is the main problem not working for the Rajasthan Royals this season. According to Gambhir, if RR eliminated Smith, it would allow them to choose a foreign pacemaker like Oshane Thomas, who would assist Jofra Archer in the bowling attack.

“I think Steve Smith is the theme song for the Rajasthan Royals, let’s be honest. I’ve been saying it since day one, ”Gambhir said on ESPNCricinfo.

“Steve Smith drops out and RR can pick Oshane Thomas or any other foreign closer in his place alongside Jofra Archer. Your performance will go up.

“Whoever the captain is can use Archer in a better way. I remember the match against Delhi Capitals: it was 10/2. And they had only used 2 overs by Jofra Archer, “he added.

“If they had one more overseas pacemaker, they could have thrown 3 Archer overs in the first six, and tried to seal the game at that point. Just because you know there is not enough depth and quality other than Jofra Archer, so you only have to use 2 Archer overs, ”added Gambhir.

Smith again failed to shoot Sunday as he scored just 11 runs. But RR managed to beat the Mumbai Indians by 8 wickets thanks to a hundred from Ben Stokes and a fifty from Sanju Samson.
