Some of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) franchises have applied to BCCI for preparation games before the league starts on September 19.
According to InsideSport sources, the Indian management has not yet made a firm commitment on the request made by the franchises. Although the board has assured franchises that they will seriously consider the application once the 2020 IPL schedule is signed.
Not only the franchises, but also IPL’s streaming partners, Star India, are also in favor of some prep games before the start of the league.

IPL 2020: Warm-up games likely before league start on September 19
If BCCI gives its green signal, source warm-up games can be played between September 11-16.
Currently, teams are trying to get in shape by playing matches within the team. Franchises feel that since players haven’t played competitive cricket since the COVID-19 outbreak, the warm-up games will help them get into a competitive rhythm.
According to the available information 5-6 franchises have requested the BCCI to organize warm-up games. According to a franchise executive, the board has been cautious but awaiting a response “In a day or two.”
Even the broadcaster has shown interest in broadcasting or televising the games subject to approval.
An IPL whistleblower revealed that the BCCI can let the teams work it out among themselves rather than take the additional responsibility at the last minute.
Meanwhile, the wait for the 2020 IPL schedules is getting longer every day. According to some of the franchises that InsideSport spoke with, they reported that BCCI has assured them that the schedules will be announced in the next 1-2 days.
