Ranger-batsman Dinesh Karthik handed over the Kolkata Knight Riders captaincy to World Cup-winning England captain Eoin Morgan on Friday. The franchise issued a statement in this regard, in which it was mentioned that the Indian would seek to focus more on his hitting.
Under Karthik’s leadership, KKR has won four of its seven matches so far and ranks fourth on the points table. The team will face the defending champions the Mumbai Indians in Friday night’s clash.
📰 “DK and Eoin have worked brilliantly together during this tournament and although Eoin assumes the role of captain, this is effectively a role exchange,” says the CEO and CEO. @VenkyMysore # IPL2020 #KKR https://t.co/6dwX45FNg5

“We are lucky to have leaders like DK, who have always put the team first. It takes a lot of courage for someone like him to make a decision like this. While we were surprised by their decision, we respect their wishes. “
“We are also fortunate that Eoin Morgan, the 2019 World Cup winning captain, who has been the vice captain, is willing to lead the team in the future. DK and Eoin have worked brilliantly together during this tournament and, although Eoin assumes the role of captain, this is effectively a role exchange and we hope this transition will go smoothly, ”KKR CEO Venky Mysore said in the statement.
Karthik has so far racked up 108 runs in seven innings.
