Delhi Capitals fast pitcher Ishant Sharma has been ruled out of the 2020 IPL with a torn abdominal muscle. Sharma had suffered a back spasm while training in the UAE prior to the start of the IPL last month and played only one game for the Capitals, against Sunrisers Hyderabad on September 29. It is understood that the Capitals sought a replacement for him.
A statement from the Capitals said Sharma had initially complained of an “acute episode of pain in his left rib cage” while bowling at a team training session on October 7. Later, it was discovered that Sharma had a muscle tear in one of her abdominal muscles on the left side.
Delhi Capitals fast bowler Ishant Sharma experienced an acute episode of pain in his left rib cage while bowling at a team training session on October 7, 2020 in Dubai. Further investigation revealed that he suffered a tear in his left internal oblique muscle. Unfortunately, this injury will rule him out of the rest of the 2020 Dream11 Indian Premier League, “the Capitals statement said.
Sharma pitched three overs against the Sunrisers for 26 non-wicketless runs. His injury adds to the concerns of the Capitals as they have lost Amit Mishra to a finger injury before, and goalie-hitter Rishabh Pant will also be out for a week with a hamstring problem.

The capitals currently have Kagiso Rabada, Harshal Patel, Mohit Sharma, Avesh Khan and Tushar Deshpande as their rhythm bowling options. Their next game is against the Rajasthan Royals on October 14 and they will play another two games after that within the next eight days.
Injury concern for Indian selectors
Sharma’s injury also has broader implications considering India is scheduled to travel to Australia for a full tour that includes a four-round series to be played in December-January. The Indian selectors are likely to pick the squads soon as they wait for Cricket Australia to publish the official itinerary.
Sharma is three matches away from becoming the second Indian fast bowler to play 100 test matches after Kapil Dev. Sharma is the second Indian fast bowler after Bhuvneshwar Kumar to be ruled out of this IPL due to injury.
Sharma made a five in the last Test he played, against New Zealand in the first Test in Wellington, but missed the second with an ankle injury.
