Two days after his name was not included in any of the three Indian teams that will tour Australia next month, Suryakumar Yadav produced another good entry for the Mumbai Indians in the 2020 Indian Premier League. Yadav remained undefeated in 79 and successfully led the persecution of 165 MI. against Royal Challengers Bangalore with five wickets remaining. This was Yadav’s third fifty of the season, with which he raised his tally to 362 runs in 12 games.

Yadav’s exclusion from the Indian teams was met with some criticism, with many former and current players such as Harbhajan Singh, Manoj Tiwary and Dilip Vengsarkar questioning the decision to leave the batter out. His position in captain Kieron Pollard supported Yadav as he guided MI home, securing them a place in the playoffs, saying it must be difficult for Yadav to know he has to wait despite his performance so well.

“Deep down he must be very, very disappointed that he didn’t go blue for India,” Pollard said after the game. Again, as an individual, if you stay consistent, you will be rewarded. Nothing happens ahead of time. There’s a discussion about my batting position, I’d love to be up there, taking runs and hitting runs, but we have to do what’s best for the team.

Yadav has been a consistent performer for MI over the years since returning to the franchise prior to the 2018 season. In 2018, he scored 512 runs and followed it up with another fruitful season in 2019, racking up 424 runs. He was the most expensive capless player in the 2018 IPL auction, priced at Rs 3.2 crore.
Pollard added that it was remarkable for Yadav to get into 52/2 and pass. “We lost some land but Surya took us home. Imagine someone hitting that strike rate after two early wickets, ”he said.
“I’m great at fighting in a way. I also watch a lot of cricket. I took a kick and threw in AB. I could have waited for the last one to finish, but if someone has to go for a run, I thought I’d take it. Bumrah remains on her feet throughout the tournament. But again, we’ve been playing total team cricket. There is always someone to take the reins. “
