Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni is not having the best time in the United Arab Emirates during the 2020 Indian Premier League. Returning to cricket after a span of over a year, Dhoni has not looked his best and He has just 112 runs in seven games, with a 47-run undefeated against the Rajasthan Royals being his best in the tournament.

Since CSK have won only two matches out of seven matches so far, questions have been asked of Dhoni. The former India captain faces criticism from various quarters, but former India goalkeeper Syed Kirmani believes the fight was imminent given that Dhoni has made it to the IPL without having played cricket in more than a year.

Speaking to the PTI news agency, Kirmani said the long gap year from cricket and age has affected Dhoni’s performance, but people should remember what he has done for the country over the years before criticizing him.
“There is a time in every player’s career to climb, similarly there is also a time to go down. Things change over time, I feel sorry for those who criticize Dhoni for his performance, ”said Kirmani.

“We must not forget that Dhoni had been one of the best finalists in the game at some point. He’s returning to cricket after a long sabbatical and has impacted Mahi’s (Dhoni) performance this IPL season.
“At this age people are not as agile compared to young people. Also, a player has a lot of tension regarding his future projects. It’s natural and obvious and we have to accept it. “
CSK will face Sunrisers Hyderabad on Tuesday, and they desperately need a win to have a chance of reaching the playoffs.
