IPL 2020: 13 people, including 2 players, test positive for Covid-19, says BCCI – cricket


The Cricket Control Board in India (BCCI) reported on Saturday through an official statement that a total of 13 people tested positive for Covid-19 after arriving in the UAE for the 2020 IPL. Two of them are players. , according to the statement.

BCCI’s official launch comes just one day after multiple Chennai Super Kings members tested positive for Covid-19. On Saturday it emerged that a second CSK player had tested positive. That news came just hours after the franchise reported on Twitter that CSK senior cricketer and former Indian all-rounder Suresh Raina had to return home for “ personal reasons ” and would not participate in the match again. This season’s tournament, which is scheduled to begin on September 19.

“The Cricket Control Board in India (BCCI) has implemented strict health and safety protocols for the 2020 Premier League India Dream11 season, which is scheduled to begin on September 19 in the United Arab Emirates.

“Consequently, upon landing in the UAE, all participants have followed a mandatory testing and quarantine program. A total of 1,988 COVID RT-PCR tests were carried out between August 20 and 28 in all participating groups in the UAE. These groups include players, support staff, team management, BCCI staff, IPL operational team, hotel and ground transportation staff.

“13 staff members have tested positive, of which 2 are players. All affected personnel, as well as their close contacts, are asymptomatic and have been isolated from other team members. They are being monitored by the IPL medical team.

“In accordance with the IPL 2020 Health and Safety Protocols, testing on all participants will take place regularly during the IPL 2020 season.”
