With 96.2 percent literacy, Kerala has once again emerged as the most literate state in the country, while Andhra Pradesh ranks at the bottom with a rate of 66.4 percent, a report based on the survey showed. of the National Statistical Office (NSO).
The report on ‘Household social consumption: education in India as part of the 75th round of the national sample survey, July 2017 to June 2018’ provides state details of the literacy rate among people aged seven or plus.
According to the study, after Kerala, Delhi has the best literacy rate with 88.7 percent, followed by Uttarkhand with 87.6 percent, Himachal Pradesh with 86.6 percent, and Assam with 85.9 percent.
On the other hand, Rajasthan is the second worst performing country with a literacy rate of 69.7%, followed by Bihar with 70.9%, Telangana with 72.8%, Uttar Pradesh with 73% and Madhya Pradesh with 73.7%. set the overall literacy rate in the country at around 77.7 percent. In rural areas, the literacy rate is 73.5% compared to 87.7% in urban areas of the country.

At the level of the whole of India, the male literacy rate is higher at 84.7% compared to 70.3% among women. The survey showed that the male literacy rate is higher than the female literacy rate in all states. In Kerala, the male literacy rate is 97.4% compared to 95.2% among women.
Similarly, the male literacy rate in Delhi stood at 93.7% higher than 82.4% among women. Even in the worst performing states, there was a sizable gap in the male and female literacy rate. In Andhra Pradesh, the male literacy rate is 73.4%. percent, more than 59.5 percent among women (aged seven and over). In Rajasthan, the gap was even larger, with the male literacy rate standing at 80.8 percent compared to 57.6 percent for women. The literacy rate was also higher (79.7% compared to 60.5% for women). A sample of 64,519 rural households from 8,097 villages and 49,238 urban households from 6,188 blocks were surveyed across India.
The report also revealed that almost 4% of rural households and 23% of urban households owned a computer.
Among 15-29 year olds, almost 24% of rural areas and 56% of urban areas could use a computer.
Nearly 35 percent of people ages 15-29 reported using the Internet in the 30 days prior to the survey date. The proportions were almost 25% in rural areas and 58% in urban areas.
