Several parts of Delhi saw moderate rain and heavy rain on Sunday morning. It continues to rain in many parts of the city and neighboring parts of northwestern India. Delhi recorded 25.1mm of rain in the past 24 hours as of 8:30 am this morning. The normal expected rainfall throughout the month is 27.1 mm.
“There is now intense thunder and lightning and light to moderate rainfall in different parts of the city,” said Kuldeep Shrivastava, head of the regional weather forecast system.
Officials from the meteorological department added that the current cloud patch has almost crossed the Delhi region. However, another patch is approaching the Delhi region from northeast Rajasthan and southeast Haryana, which is more likely to cause a moderate to heavy rain streak over parts of Delhi and neighboring areas for the next 2- Three hours.
The minimum temperature recorded until 6.30 in the morning was 9.9 degrees Celsius.
A western disturbance such as a cyclonic circulation extends over central Pakistan. It is likely to remain virtually stationary for the next 2-3 days. An induced cyclonic circulation extends over southwestern Rajasthan and its environs and is likely to persist in the same area for the next two days.
The confluence of the southwest winds in association with the western disturbance and lower-level southeast winds is highly likely to continue over the northwestern plains and adjacent areas of central India during Jan 3-5, he said the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in their bulletin.

Under the influence of these systems, widespread and moderate rain / snowfall is likely to occur over the western Himalayan region during January 4-5 with peak intensity on January 4-5.
Widespread rains accompanied by thunderstorms are likely in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, northern Rajasthan, western Uttar Pradesh and northwestern Madhya Pradesh with maximum intensity on January 3-4.
Hailstorms are likely to occur in isolated locations over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, western Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi during the same period.
