NEW DELHI: Cold wave in northern India will continue until January 2 and will get intense starting next week, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday.
The meteorological department also predicted light showers in eastern Rajasthan, Delhi, western Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana between January 2 and January 6.
“The cold snap will continue in North India tomorrow. From January 2, the cold snap will subside. Light rains are expected in eastern Rajasthan, Delhi, western UP, Punjab and Haryana between 2 and on January 6, “said IMD Senior Scientist RK Jenamani. AND ME.
“An intense cold wave is likely to hit North India again from January 7,” he added.
Meanwhile, the minimum temperature recorded at the Safdarjung Observatory on Thursday was 3.3 degrees Celsius.
Speaking to ANI, Kuldeep Srivastava, Director of IMD’s Regional Weather Forecast Center, New Delhi, explained: “After December 12, the western unrest mainly affected the western Himalayan region and led to heavy snow and rain in Jammu. and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. The cold northwesterly winds are drawing even closer to Delhi NCR from Jammu Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
“The fog over Punjab and Haryana further increases the chill of the winds moving towards Delhi,” Srivastava added.
