New Delhi:
After the “momentous” appointment of the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), the next logical military reform would be to establish integrated theater commands for better coordination of the three services, Army Chief of Staff, General, said on Wednesday. MM Naravane.
At the same time, Gen. Naravane said that the process for establishing theater commands, which combine control of all armed forces according to geographic fronts, must be “deliberate, thoughtful, and well-considered,” and compliance will take a long time. ” number of years”.
Speaking at an event at the College of Defense Administration in Secunderabad, the army chief said that it was necessary for everyone to work in a spirit of unity and trust, with national security interests being of the utmost importance.
He added a note of caution and said there could be a requirement for “mid-way corrections,” according to a statement issued by the military.
The Army Chief of Staff was optimistic about the future of the integration of the Armed Forces, which he considered “inevitable”, since it would lead to a “synergy of three services” and optimization of resources.
General Naravane’s comments reflected the thinking of the force, as well as his willingness to support the plan proposed by the Chief of Defense Staff, General Bipin Rawat, to improve the combat capabilities of the armed forces.
“The next logical step in the defense reform process was the formation of Integrated Theater Commands to synergize the capabilities and combat potential of the three services during war and peace,” said the army chief.
Under the plan, each of the theater commands will have units from the army, navy and air force and they will all work as a single entity dealing with security challenges in a specific geographic territory under an operational commander.
Today the army, navy, and air force have separate commands.
In February, the Chief of Defense Staff said that the air defense command, which will be led by the Indian Air Force, would be deployed early next year.
He said the proposed peninsula command, which will be formed by merging the eastern and western commands of the Indian Navy, is likely to take shape by the end of 2021.
