Multiple people report that their Instagram app crashes repeatedly and has stopped working.

HIGHLIGHT

  • Instagram crashes repeatedly for Android users.
  • Some users also report that their Instagram is down.
  • Instagram has yet to address the problem and there is no workaround.

Instagram is facing server issues at the moment, causing problems for several users complaining that their Instagram app is not working. The problem is not limited to internet issues, it even involves the Instagram app crashing on various devices. At the time of this writing, more than 800 reports were detected on downdetector.com, a website that tracks network outages. Instagram has yet to acknowledge the problem.

According to people on Twitter, Reddit, and the Downdetector forum, a large number of people see their Instagram app repeatedly crashing on their phone. As it was not clear, we opened the Instagram application on both iOS and Android to see if the problem is limited to one operating system or is it universal. For us, Instagram worked fine on iOS, but on Android, the app crashed too many times. I have also been informed by some of my friends that their Instagram is getting blocked on their phone, leading them to think there is something wrong with the phone.

It is too early to find out what could be the cause of the accident. Even Instagram (or Facebook) has not recognized that such a problem is affecting people. But this shock seems to be more intense than expected. According to people, the Instagram app keeps crashing even after it has been uninstalled and reinstalled on the phone. Restarting the phone is also not helpful in this situation. So at this point, there seems to be no way around the blocking issue until Instagram takes care of the matter.

It seems that the end of 2020 is not a period of recovery after everything that has happened. Towards the end of the year, popular Internet services are falling for users. Earlier this week, all Google services were interrupted for approximately 45 minutes, leaving users of Gmail, YouTube, Drive, and other services in great difficulty. The outage affected billions of users worldwide, marking one of the biggest service outages we’ve seen in recent times. Google said the outage was due to its platform’s authentication tool failing because storage was full. The internal system acquiring storage did not do so in case of full storage, causing the authentication tool to stop all services that require users to log in to function, such as Gmail and Drive. YouTube needs it too, but only for personal content, so the unsigned version of the video streaming platform had no problems.

We have contacted Instagram to clarify what has happened and why. The article will be updated accordingly.
