New Delhi:
The Indian warship INS Talwar began refueling with the US Navy tanker USNS Yukon in the northern Arabian Sea on Monday under the Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement (LEMOA).
“INS Talwar on Mission-Based Deployment in Northern Arabian Sea Undertaken Refueling with @USNavy Fleet Tanker USNSYukon under LEMOA,” the Indian Navy tweeted.
In the following tweet, the Navy said: “The evolution, in addition to highlighting the interoperability between the Indian Navy and the United States Navy, enables the presence to enhance maritime security.”
In 2017, Manohar Parrikar, then India’s defense minister, and Ash Carter, then the US defense secretary, signed the key logistics agreement to allow forces from both countries to use each other’s bases to repair and resupply supplies.
The LEMOA facilitates the provision of logistical support, supplies and services between the US and Indian armies on a reimbursable basis and provides a framework to govern them.
