Bombay:
The Toyota Innova linked to a bomb scare near the home of industrialist Mukesh Ambani in Mumbai on Thursday has been seen on the CCTV broadcast as it leaves the city via the Thane-Mulund tollbooth earlier that day, said Saturday by the morning the Mumbai Police Crimes Division.
Police say the new images are crucial: They show a man in the driver’s seat, who can be seen as he leans over to pay the toll. Then the car drove off in the direction of Thane. The driver of the car has not yet been identified.
The CCTV broadcast shows a white Innova arriving at the toll gate around 3 a.m. on February 25 (depending on the timestamp), the day an abandoned van was found filled with explosives, 20 jelly bars, and several detonators, meters from Antilla. , The iconic house of Mr. Ambani.
The gelatin was not military grade but the commercial type that is often used in construction, excavation or mining, police sources have said.
Police believe the two cars, which were captured on CCTV footage, were deployed together, and both drove to Ambani’s residence the day before. The driver of the truck, a Mahindra Scorpio, got out of that car and got into the Innova after parking it in the spot from which it was later recovered.
CCTV footage from the scene showed a man in a mask and hoodie emerging from the Scorpio.
He also has not been identified yet.
On Friday, police said they had tracked down the owner of the van, which had recently been stolen.
Police also recovered a handwritten letter, written in English but Hindi, addressed to the president of Reliance Industries and his wife, Neeta Ambani, from inside the car.
Some license plates were also recovered; The SUV’s license plate was initially thought to match a vehicle that is part of Mr. Ambani’s security team. However, it was later determined to be false.
Mumbai police have been stationed on the outskirts of Antilia since the car was found parked about 1.4 km from the building, which already had strong security cover.
“Police have deployed police personnel throughout the city and are conducting searches. The vehicle has been impounded for investigation. A letter has been found inside the suspicious vehicle,” Mumbai police said on Thursday.
In a statement, Reliance Industries said: “We are grateful to the Mumbai Police for their prompt and immediate action. We are confident that the Mumbai Police will complete their comprehensive investigation quickly.”
Maharashtra Interior Minister Anil Deshmukh also tweeted: “Twenty sticks of gelatin explosives were found in a Scorpio van in the vicinity of the Mukesh Ambani industrialist residence in Mumbai. The Mumbai Crime Branch police are investigating the matter and findings will be out soon. “
