NEW DELHI: India’s active COVID-19 case burden continues to exhibit a sustained drop to the downside and has dropped significantly to 2.54 lakh, the lowest after 179 days, the Union Health Ministry said on Friday .
Total active cases were 2.53,287 on July 6. India’s active case load at present consists of only 2.47 per cent of total cases in India.
New daily cases in India in recent days have been around 20,000. The new cases in a period of 24 hours were 20,035 while in the same period 23,181 recoveries were registered.
“Recoveries that outnumber daily new cases for the past 35 days have ensured a steady decline in active cases,” the ministry said.
The total number of recovered cases is close to 99 lakh (98,83,461).
“The gap between recoveries and active cases, which is constantly increasing, has crossed 96 lakh and is currently 96,29,207,” the ministry noted.
The difference in new recoveries that outnumber new cases has also improved the recovery rate to 96.08% to date.
The ministry said that it is observed that 77.61 percent of the new recovered cases are concentrated in 10 states and UT.
Kerala has reported the maximum number of recoveries in a single day with 5,376 newly recovered cases. A total of 3,612 people have recovered in Maharashtra, followed by 1,537 in West Bengal.
Of the new cases, 80.19 percent are concentrated in 10 states and UT.
Kerala reported the highest number of new cases daily with 5,215. Maharashtra follows with 3,509 new cases.
A total of 256 cases of death have been reported in the last 24 hours.
Ten states and UT account for 80.47 percent of the new deaths.
Maharashtra saw the most casualties (58). Kerala and West Bengal follow with 30 and 29 daily deaths, respectively.
Daily deaths have been less than 300 since the last 7 days. This has ensured that mortality remains low and currently stands at 1.45 percent, the ministry said.
Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Delhi account for 63 percent of the total deaths in the country, he said.
