The value of China’s imports stood at $ 4.98 billion in August and $ 5.58 in July, according to data provided by the Minister of Trade and Industry. Piyush Goyal in his written reply to the Lok Sabha.
“India’s imports from China have decreased by 27.63 percent during April-August, 2020-21 from the corresponding period of the previous year,” it said.
In a separate response, the minister said that no proposal on the withdrawal of Most Favored Nation (MFN) status to China is being considered.
“No such proposal is being considered at this time,” he said while responding to a question on whether the government plans to withdraw MFN status from China to reduce export and import business with that country.
Later, at a press conference, the minister said that the country’s export is reviving.
During the first half of September, exports have grown by 10 percent compared to the same period last year, he added.
