India’s daily Covid-19 count passes the 50,000 mark again


In a departure from the recent trend in which India’s daily infections fell below 50,000, the country recorded 50,210 new cases in the past 24 hours, data from the Health Ministry revealed on Thursday. On Wednesday 46,253 new cases were registered and on Tuesday the figure was 38,310. The increase in the number of daily infections indicates that the spread of infection has not slowed in the middle of the holiday season, but as the number of recoveries increases, the number of active cases remains below 5 lakh. Currently, the number of active Covid-19 cases in the country is 5,27,962, which is less than the number of active cases on Wednesday 5,33,787. Although more than 50,000 new cases have been added in the last 24 hours, more than 55,000 people have also been discharged. A total of 704 deaths have been recorded in the last 24 hours. The total count is now 83,64,086.

The number of new infections reported in the past 24 hours is an 8.5 percent jump from Wednesday’s numbers and a 31 percent jump from Tuesday’s numbers, the lowest in the recent past.

Data from the Ministry of Health have revealed that 16 states and territories of the Union have cases per million below the national average. The national average of cases per million is 6,025. Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Gujarat, Meghalaya, Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Nagaland, Punjab, Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Assam have lowercase letters per million.

According to Wednesday’s data, Kerala, Delhi, Maharashtra, and West Bengal are reporting the maximum number of new Covid-19 cases.

On Wednesday, Delhi reported 6,842 new cases, its highest daily number. Delhi Prime Minister Arvind Kejriwal admitted that a third wave of infections has hit the national capital.
