Coronavirus cases in India: India is the second most affected country in the world due to Covid

Coronavirus cases in India are steadily increasing with 41,810 new infections in the past 24 hours, bringing the count to 93,92,919. 496 deaths were registered in the last 24 hours and the number of active cases fell by 984. There are 4,53,956 active cases in the country. More than 42,000 people recovered from the deadly disease in the past 24 hours, bringing the total recovery to more than 88 lakhs. The total number of deaths in the country amounts to 1,36,696. India’s COVID-19 count had crossed 70 lakh on October 11, 80 lakh on October 29, and surpassed 90 lakh on November 20. Over 13.95 crore of samples have been tested as of November 28 with 12,83,449 samples being tested on Saturday.

  1. Kerala reported the highest number of cases among all states in the last 24 hours with 6,250 infections. The worst affected state remains Maharashtra with more than 18 lakh of infections. The state registered more than 5,900 cases in the last 24 hours.

The Serum Institute of India will apply within two weeks for an emergency use license for the coronavirus vaccine being developed by the University of Oxford and the pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca, the head of the vaccine manufacturer, Adar Poonawalla, said on Saturday. Poonawalla said that he has discussed with Prime Minister Narendra Modi the way forward to vaccinate India against COVID-19 when the vaccine becomes available.

  3. Prime Minister Modi visited India’s major vaccine centers on Saturday to personally review the development of the coronavirus vaccine and the manufacturing process. The visit, Prime Minister Modi’s office said, was meant to help him get a “first-hand perspective of the preparations, the challenges and the roadmap in India’s effort to vaccinate its citizens.”

  4. Earlier this week, the Serum Institute of India said it will sell the Oxford COVID-19 vaccine to the government for Rs 250 and to pharmacies for Rs 1,000 per dose. A minimum of 100 million doses will be available in January and hundreds of millions could be ready by the end of February, Poonawalla told NDTV.

  5. Following a spike in Covid-19 cases in Dehradun, Uttarakhand police announced on Saturday that a coronavirus test is mandatory to enter Uttarakhand. The state said they would monitor the details of the movement of people from other states to Uttarakhand.

  6. The other worst affected states in the country are Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Delhi and Andhra Pradesh.

  7. Delhi has seen an increase in daily cases in recent weeks after the festival season and an increase in pollution. The capital registered nearly 5,000 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the total count to 5.61 lakhs.

  8. Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said that more than 50 percent of the beds reserved for coronavirus patients in Delhi are unoccupied. “More than 1,200 ICU beds and around 9,500 normal beds are unoccupied at the moment. Overall, more than 50 percent of the beds are available. So we are in a slightly better situation,” he told reporters.

  9. Russia’s coronavirus vaccine, Sputnik V, will also be produced in India. One of the vaccine’s developers has announced that India-based pharmaceutical company Hetero will produce more than 100 million doses of the injection. In addition to India, Sputnik V will also be produced in Brazil, China and South Korea.

  10. India is the second most affected country in the world by the deadly coronavirus after the United States. The United States surpassed 13 million cases of Covid-19 on Saturday. India is followed by Brazil, Russia and France.
