The number of coronavirus cases in India rose to 93.92 lakh with 41,810 fresh infections, while the number of people who have recovered from the disease rose to more than 88.02 lakh, according to data updated by the Ministry of Health of the Union on Sunday.
Total Covid-19 cases amounted to 93,92,920, with 41,810 infections reported in a 24-hour span, while the death toll rose to 1,36,696 with 496 new deaths, government data showed.
There are 4,53,956 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country to date, the data indicated.
The total number of discharged cases is 88.02,267 with 42,298 new recoveries in the last 24 hours.
The Indian Council of Medical Research said that a total of 13,95,03,803 samples have been analyzed for Covid-19 as of November 28. Of these, 12,83,449 samples were analyzed yesterday, added the ICMR.
Coronavirus Vaccine Update
The director of the Serum Institute of India, Adar Poonawalla, said on Saturday that the SII will apply for the emergency authorization of the coronavirus vaccine within two weeks. “We are in the process of applying in the next two weeks for emergency use,” Poonawalla said.
Poonawalla also said that the Indian government can buy 300 to 400 million doses of ‘Covidshield’ by July next year.
Poonawalla’s statement comes after Prime Minister Modi visited the company’s pandemic-level facility in Pune on Saturday to personally review the Covid-19 vaccine development and manufacturing process.
Serum Institute of India has partnered with the global pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford for the candidate vaccine ‘Covidshield’.
On the distribution of the Covid-19 vaccine, Poonawalla stressed that the priority of IBS is India and other COVAX countries.
“The vaccine will initially be distributed in India, and then we will look at the COVAX countries which are mainly located in Africa. The UK and European markets are being served by AstraZeneca and Oxford. Our priority is the countries of India and COVAX,” he said. .
“We are manufacturing between 50 and 60 million doses per month. After January it will be 100 million doses,” added the head of the SII.
