Coronavirus LIVE Updates: Concerned about the increasing number of coronavirus cases, the Rajasthan government decided on Saturday night to impose Section 144 of the CrPC in 11 districts of the state. The state has 33 districts, and the provision prohibits a gathering of more than five people in one place. According to a statement, the government also decided to continue the ban on social or religious functions until October 31. However, the permit will be maintained for 20 people at funerals and 50 at marriage functions. In view of the alarming situation regarding the coronavirus, it was decided to impose Section 144 of the CrPC in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, Ajmer, Alwar, Bhilwara, Bikaner, Udaipur, Sikar, Pali and Nagaur, according to the statement. People will have to wear masks and follow the rules of social distancing.

Here are the latest Covid-19 updates:

• The World Health Organization has approved a protocol to test African medicinal herbs as potential treatments for coronavirus and other epidemics. Covid-19 has raised the issue of using traditional medicines to combat contemporary diseases, and the endorsement clearly encouraged testing with criteria similar to those used for molecules developed by laboratories in Asia, Europe, or America. It came months after an offer from the president of Madagascar to promote a drink made from artemisia, a plant proven to be effective in treating malaria, was met with widespread contempt.

• Protesters took to the streets of London, Tel Aviv and other cities on Saturday to protest the coronavirus restrictions, denouncing how the measures have affected daily life even with rising infection rates in many places and the global number of dead approaching a million. In the UK, the latest official estimates released on Friday showed that new coronavirus infections and hospital admissions have doubled every seven to eight days. Britain has the highest death toll in Europe since the start of the pandemic, with 41,821 confirmed deaths related to the virus.

• The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported 6,706,374 cases of the new coronavirus on Saturday, an increase of 49,575 cases from its previous count, and said the number of deaths had risen by 983 to 198,099. The CDC’s count of cases of the respiratory disease known as COVID-19, caused by the novel coronavirus, was as of 4 p.m. ET on September 18 compared to its previous report the day before.

• France reported 13,498 new confirmed COVID-19 cases during the previous 24 hours, setting another record for additional daily infections since the start of the epidemic. New cases brought the cumulative total to 442,194, as the seven-day moving average of new daily infections rose to more than 9,700, compared with a low of 272 at the end of May, two weeks after the lockdown was lifted. Faster circulation of the virus and a six-fold increase in tests since the government released it are the two main reasons for the magnitude of the increase, epidemiologists have said.
