After registering more than 1,900 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, the Covid-19 case count in India increased to 26,917 today, according to data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The number of deaths due to the highly contagious infection also increased to 826, as 47 new deaths were reported since yesterday, he added.
Active cases in India went over 20,000 and now stands at 20,117. There are also 77 foreign citizens affected by the virus, the ministry said.
Apart from that, 5,913 patients who were infected with Covid-19 have been discharged or cured of the virus while one has emigrated from the country.
In addition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation today through the monthly radio show ‘Mann Ki Baat’ amid the national shutdown. By labeling the fight against the Covid-19 fight in India as driven, Modi strongly urged citizens to stay away from the assumption that the virus will not reach their states, cities, and colonies.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra remained the worst affected state with a total number of positive cases rising to 7,628, followed by Gujarat with 3,071 cases, Delhi with 2,625 cases and Rajasthan with 2,083 cases, according to the data.
The states most affected by recorded deaths are Maharashtra (323), Delhi (54), Gujarat (133), Madhya Pradesh (83), Telangana (26), Andhra Pradesh (29), Uttar Pradesh (24), Punjab (16 ), Karnataka (18), Tamil Nadu (20), Rajasthan (27), West Bengal (15), Jammu and Kashmir (5), Kerala (3), Jharkhand (3), Haryana (3) and Bihar (2) Meghalaya, Odisha, Assam, Himachal Pradesh and have reported one death each.
However, on a positive note, all coronavirus cases in Tripura, Goa and Manipur are now negative, the respective state officials reported. Additionally, the health ministry added that Covid-19 growth has slowed in Odisha and Kerala.

Globally, the number of deaths from the new coronavirus exceeded 200,000, while the number of positive cases exceeded 2.9 million, according to the latest data from Johns Hopkins University.
