1. Tamil Nadu reported more than 500 new cases on Saturday and the state’s count increased to 6,535. Delhi’s count reached 6,542 with 224 new cases.
  2. Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said India’s Covid-19 testing capacity has been expanded to 95,000 tests per day. He added that so far more than 15 lakh tests have been performed in 332 government and 121 private laboratories.
  3. Two Indians, who were among the 363 citizens brought from Abu Dhabi and Dubai on special flights that arrived in Kerala on Thursday, tested positive for Covid-19. One of the patients is being treated in Kozhikode, while the second is under medical supervision in Kochi.
  4. The number of coronavirus cases in India increased to 59,662 and the number increased to 1,981. Of these, Maharashtra alone represents more than 20,000 cases.

The Trinamool Congress led by Mamata Banerjee attacked Union Interior Minister Amit Shah on his accusation that the West Bengal government was unfair to migrant workers by not allowing special “Sharmik” trains to reach the state. Meanwhile, party leaders claimed that the government scheduled eight trains to transport the workers.
  6. Tamil Nadu government announced relaxations on state closure guidelines, including extending business hours for independent and neighborhood stores and allowing private stores to operate with fewer employees. The relaxations will be applicable from Monday in non-containment areas.
  7. Human Resources Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal said the assessment for Central Board of Secondary Education exams class 10 and 12 will be conducted by home teachers starting Sunday and that 3,000 schools have been designated as exam to give them the answer sheets.
  8. Karnataka’s government issued an order on Friday saying that restaurants, pubs and bars in the state can sell liquor at retail prices.
  9. World Health Organization Special Envoy for Covid-19 David Nabarro said the pandemic will peak in India in late July before it is contained.
  10. Globally, the coronavirus has infected more than 39 lakh people and killed more than 2.75 lakh people, according to Johns Hopkins University.
